Finally an Electric or Hybrid Chevrolet Corvette?

For the past year, there have been rumours that General Motors may launch an electric Chevrolet Corvette model. The American multinational registered the name "E-Ray", a name that could be reserved for an electric Corvette. Or maybe a Chevrolet Corvette Hybrid version of the model.

The new Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray would be able to incorporate all the technology needed to achieve this. In fact, by some claims, much of it is already destined to meet the electric target.

Technology for the Electric Chevrolet Corvette

This technology includes the Corvette platform, which is ready to adopt a mild hybrid, hybrid, and even fully electric propulsion. In other words, the eighth-generation Corvette C8 could be fitted with a 48-volt starter to become a mild hybrid. It could also receive one or more small electric motors to provide all-wheel drive. It could even use only electric motors and a battery, to become a real EV.

This is why GM's registration of the E-Ray name last July came as no surprise. Although the E-xxx format is commonly used on all-electric cars, this trade name could also be used on a hybrid version.

E-Ray for the Corvette Hybrid?

In fact, it is believed to be the next very powerful Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. It's already confirmed to have 900 horsepower hybrid mechanics, with a new twin-turbo V8 engine and two electric motors located in the front axle. It could then become an “E-Ray” with hybrid sports all-wheel drive.

But the name Ray, which has been in use since 1967, will be retained. A name GM has retained in the new model: the current C8 Stingray became the first mid-engine Corvette. A real revolution in design compared to all its predecessors. And not content with that, it could also become the first Corvette in history to have electrified mechanics.
